Why digital locks fail

Three categories. One fix: a working door.

Failure / 01

Power

Batteries fully discharged. Backup terminals unresponsive. Power surges from poor wiring. The lock has no idea what time it is, let alone whether to open.

Failure / 02

Mechanism

Motor jam. Latch misalignment from years of door settle. Stripped gear in the drive train. The brain works, the body won’t move.

Failure / 03

Firmware

Bricked update. Fingerprint database corrupted. Bluetooth pairing dropped without a recovery path. The lock is technically alive, just unwilling.

    Diagnose externally. Power, mechanical, firmware, we identify which without forcing entry first.
  2. 02
    Attempt non-destructive entry. External power injection or manufacturer-known recovery, where available.
  3. 03
    Open if required. Drilled removal of the body, never the door. Damage is contained to the discarded hardware.
  4. 04
    Replace on the spot. Mechanical fallback or new digital unit, fitted, registered and tested.
  5. 05
    Document the cause. So you can argue it with the manufacturer if you choose to.
